The first-ever Philadelphia Fine Art Fair kicks off this weekend at the 23rd St. City Troop Armory in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Philadelphia Fine Art Fair will held April 5-7 at the armory. It’ll showcase and celebrate contemporary art (pieces made from the the late 1960s onwards) with a mixture of exhibitions, installations, screenings, meet and greets and auctions. The pieces on display come from the United States, Latin America and Europe.
There will also be a special exhibition for visitors to explore: “The Magical World of M.C. Escher.” Escher is most famous for his math and logic-defying drawings showcasing impossible places that include such things as a staircase that both ascends and descends.
Latin American art fans can browse through the fair’s special Latin American Masters Pavilion, which showcases works by Diego Rivera, Roberto Matta, Rufino Tamayo, Armando Morales and more.
Honoring Philadelphia’s own art scene, there will be several screenings of the documentary “A Conversation with Jamie Wyeth,” the painter and son of acclaimed artist Andrew Wyeth from Chadds Ford. Screenings will be followed by question and answer sessions with the filmmaker, Damon Sinclair.
Art collectors will be able to buy works from a variety of artists including Pablo Picasso, Jeff Koons, Salvador Dali, Gustav Klimt and Helen Frankenthaler. The pieces for sale will range from $3,000 to more than a million dollars.
Admission to the show is $25 and tickets can be purchased at philfineartfair.com or at the door. Your ticket includes a complimentary Italian wine tasting and vodka samples.
